Mermaid

Gasping for breath...
You push me under again...
Climbing onto me anyway you can to stay afloat...
You elbow me in the face and bloody my nose...
Kick me in the rib, trying to grip with your foot...
Rip skin with your fingernails on the back of my head...
My lungs begin to fill with water...
Occasionally my body makes it to the top of the water...
My lungs suck in as much air as they can as I cough...
You throw me under as you kick off of my shoulders...
My body sinks to the bottom, life fading from my body...
My knees sink and buckle into the ocean floor...
Out of nowhere, she appears,
Her golden hair flowing behind her in the water,
She swims towards me, grabbing me around the waist,
As we break the surface of the water, I cough water,
She swims me into the shallow water.
As my lungs expel water and reaccept air into them,
I see her golden hair swim away into the sunset,
disappearing as she ducked beneath the surface.
